SWEDEN

Capital: Stockholm  |  Population: 9.52 million

Open your horizons to the beautiful lakes and forest-filled hills of Sweden. When you study abroad in this Scandinavian gem, you have the chance to meaningfully experience a new culture and work towards fluency in a foreign language, while still being able to be understood in English. You make friends and new family members from around the world and develop skills, experience, and maturity that equip you for success in an increasingly globalized world – all while you’re still in high school!

Sweden At a Glance

  • Sweden is one of the cleanest countries in the world.
  • People love outdoor activities, including fishing, golf, tennis, sailing, swimming, hockey, soccer and swimming.
  • Sweden is home to beautiful landscapes, and most Swedes live close to nature.
  • In the summer, there are long, bright summer nights. The Midsummer festival celebrates the summer solstice.
  • Lamb chops with potatoes, salad, and a glass of milk would be a typical dinner in Sweden.
  • Did you know people in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway can all understand each others’ languages? Though they all speak their own native tongue, the languages are mutually intelligible. This means if you learn Swedish, you can speak to Danes and Norwegians as well!
