MEXICO

Mexico is known for its exotic vacation sites such as Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, and Alcapulco as well as famous Aztec ruins and the archaeological sites of Teotihuacan, Tula and the Templo Mayor in Mexico City. Mexico has also been the birthplace of several world famous authors and artists including Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes, Diego Rivera, and Frida Kahlo.

Mexico is a presidential republic, where the president is both Head of State and Head of Government. The official language is Spanish, though regional and indigenous dialects are spoken throughout the expansive country.

MACEDONIA

Welcome to Macedonia, home to rugged mountains in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula.

Covered in ancient religious sites and architectural wonders, Macedonia has a rich cultural landscape. Its arts scene is alive and vibrant, with classical music, theater, poetry festivals and musical festivals filling its calendar. Rimmed by mountains around a large valley, Macedonia provides a scenic backdrop for citizens and tourists alike.

Macedonia is a parliamentary democracy with a president elected every five years. The official language is Macedonian, a Slavic language close to Bulgarian, but several others are spoken as a reflection of its ethnic diversity.

MACAU

Welcome to Macau, home to a unique local and visitors’ paradise across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong.

As one of the world’s richest cities and with a life expectancy at the top of the charts, Macau is quite a place to call home. A former Portuguese colony, Macau with its sparkling skyscrapers and colorful casinos is a bustling center of tourism and manufacturing.

Like Hong Kong, Macau has special designation as part of China, and enjoys a large amount of autonomy. It runs its own immigration policies, currency, and police force and its population of 560,000 people speak either Chinese or Portuguese.

KAZAKHSTAN

Welcome to Kazakhstan, home to rich lands of resources and a history of diverse and nomadic people.

Nestled in the middle of Russia, China, Kyrgyszstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan has sweeping steppes, canyons and mountains. It has become a diverse country throughout its history, particularly as a result of its relationship with the former Soviet Union.

Today, Kazakhstan is a unitary republic, led by a president and prime minister. It has two official languages, Kazakh and Russian, and the majority of Kazakhstanis can speak both in daily life and in official affairs.

JAPAN

Welcome to Japan, a collection of islands home to spectacular mountains, delicate pottery and spell-binding tea ceremonies.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of Japanese culture is its love of precise physical composition. This aesthetic is evident in all facets of Japanese culture, from manicured gardens and flower arrangements to small functional homes, from haiku poetry to beautifully arranged traditional foods.

Japan is a constitutional monarchy. The monarch is greatly revered, but holds little power. The true head of state is the prime minister.

The official language is Japanese, which has one of the most complex writing systems in the world, with over 3,000 characters and three different scripts.

HONG KONG

Welcome to Hong Kong, the bustling, modern island and peninsula known for delectable cuisine and sophisticated technology.

Though technically part of China, Hong Kong has a distinct culture and region all its own. Under a 1997 agreement, China’s socialist economic system is not practiced in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong enjoys a high degree of autonomy from China. From its leading shipping and financial services to its dazzling variety of Chinese cuisine, this region has made a name for itself around the world.

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated regions in the world, with its 7 million people speaking both Cantonese and English.

FRANCE

Welcome to the timeless country of romance, wine and the arts. France occupies an area slightly larger than California, and is divided into 96 different regions or départements that are as varied as the landscape. France has left its mark on the diverse worlds of gastronomy, arts, politics, fashion, and science and is the number one tourist destination in the world. It is a republic led by a president who serves for seven years. The official language is French, although there are many different dialects spoken within the various regions.

FINLAND

Welcome to Finland, the striking Scandinavian country covered in wooded hills and brimming with sparkling water.  

Finland is marked by cold winters and warm summers. About a quarter of the country’s total area lies north of the Arctic Circle. During the summer months of the ‘midnight sun’, the sun does not set in this area for about 73 days! As one of the most industrialized countries in Europe, Finland’s metal and engineering industries pump out exports to the rest of the world.

The government of Finland is a democratic republic. The head of state is the President of the Republic, elected every six years by direct popular vote.

The official languages of Finland are Finnish and Swedish. Although most people speak Finnish, the official status of Swedish has historical roots in the period when Finland was a part of the Swedish realm.

DENMARK

Welcome to Denmark, a cold but friendly country in beautiful northern Europe. 

Danish people are known for their very open attitudes, AND they invented the Lego™! Rain and grey skies are common in Denmark, and winter temperatures hover around the freezing point. During the summer, Danes experience 18-hour days.

The Kingdom of Denmark, as it is known, has a population of 5.6 million people. Denmark has a parliament and a monarchy, which share joint legislative powers. 

The official language is Danish, although most Danes begin learning English at an early age. 

COLOMBIA

Welcome to Colombia, the rich and beautiful country with a dynamic culture much deeper than the negative headlines sometimes in the news.

Colombia is a republic with an executive, legislative and judicial branch. Though the political relationship with the U.S. has been complicated in the past, Colombia’s economy and exports are closely tied with American markets. Americans enjoy Colombian coffee, bananas, gold, sugar, flowers and textiles. 

Spanish is the official language in Colombia, and is almost universally spoken there.
