Get ready to boost your Japanese skills and spend an unforgettable summer in bustling Tokyo! In this immersive program, you’ll practice real-world conversations, dive into Japanese culture through hands-on activities, and stay with a welcoming host family. Living with a Japanese family means you’ll experience “REAL JAPAN” up close—sharing meals, traditions, and everyday life while naturally improving your language skills. You’ll return home with new skills, global experience, and a fresh perspective—all while you’re still in high school!

Summer Program Details

  • 3, 4, or 7 week-long summer language program in Tokyo, Japan
  • No previous Japanese study required
  • All levels offered (beginner, intermediate and advanced)
  • Host family stay: Host families are carefully selected and may host one or two students from different nationalities. Participants may have to share a room. Breakfast and dinner are eaten with the host family and lunch is eaten at school. On Sundays, students stay with their host families, have meals together and share the family’s daily activities.
  • Depending on program length, excursions offered to Mt. Fuji, Kyoto, Nikko, Kamakura and more
  • Health and accident insurance included
  • Yukata (summer kimono) included

    • 3 week program: August 4 – August 22
    • 4 week program: July 7 – August 1
    • 7 week program: July 7 – August 22
  • Application Deadlines:
    • 4 week and 7 week applications due April 1, 2025
    • 3 week program applications due June 1, 2025
    • Early enrollment encouraged as spots may be limited

Program price does not include:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Lunch at school during weekdays
  • Public transportation expenses from host home to school

Summer Program Requirements

  • Open to students age 15-18
  • Open to students who are going to graduate from high school prior to departure
  • No previous Japanese study required
  • Students with specific dietary requirements (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.), a current or past history of mental illness or severe allergies cannot be accommodated by the program.
  • Take the program and the Japanese courses seriously
  • Be motivated
  • Respect and follow host family, school and program rules
