Costa Rica | Protecting the Pacific

Capital: San José  |  Population: 4.87 million

National Geographic calls it “the most biologically intense place on Earth,” and it’s calling you. The deeper your exploration into Costa Rica’s awe-inspiring, majestic waters, the more important your work to protect them will become. Here you’ll volunteer to preserve a coastline park called Whale Bay, and the greater ocean, as you discover the issues critical to local coastal sustainable development. Become a key team member, examining the full spectrum of marine conservation, from socioeconomic to ecological factors. Follow grassroots leaders and community members to breathtaking discoveries at every turn. You’ll also take in eyefuls of exotic wildlife, with the possibility of spotting tropical fish, dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and other sea creatures. Experience the thrills of the ocean on a surfboard as you work to preserve the natural beauty around you.
